What Inspires You?

So what inspires you? Might it be a movie, a book or beautiful music? Could it be a friend, a child or a dramatic sunset?

As different as each of us are, there are countless things that could inspire us. However I think we all can agree on the inspiration that scripture can give us.

Psalm 89:5-12

5 Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD,
your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!
6 For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD?
Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD,
7 God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones,
and awesome above all who are around him?
8 O LORD God of hosts,
who is mighty as you are, O LORD,
with your faithfulness all around you?
9 You rule the raging of the sea;
when its waves rise, you still them.
10 You crushed Rahab like a carcass;
you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11 The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours;
the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.
12 The north and the south, you have created them;

There are some beautiful word pictures in there. Can you calm the raging sea? Can you create something as expansive as the north and the south?

Romans 8:31-37

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect?It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God,who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

"For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Read the next paragraph slowly and really think about it.

No one and no thing can separate us from Christ's love. Christ, who is sitting at the right hand of God, will not stop loving us through all the ups and downs. Can you believe that? Christ is sitting next to God. God who founded the world and all that's in it. Christ is sitting next to God and talking to God about us. He is talking to God about you and me.

No wonder we can be more than conquerors over all the difficult stuff of life. We have a personal friend, a brother, a Saviour that loves us and is talking to The Creator Himself on our behalf.

Wow! Now that is inspirational!

What scripture inspires you and why? Post a comment to let us know.

Colossians 3:1-5
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

Every time I read this, I renew my desire to put aside all the things of this life that try to consume my time and attention, and focus on what's truly important. Focus so hard that you are dead to these things--that's a strong focus!

Thanks, Beverly--this is going to be a great blog! I've missed our Bible study nights.
